GARBAGE
We usually keep all of our garbage and take it home (we just double-bag it and throw it into a Rubbermaid bin) for disposal, however if you have a lot, you can go to the Sprucedale Dump (15-20 min away) and get rid of it there.
There are two bins under the counter. One for recyclables and one for household garbage.
If you are intending to go to the Sprucedale dump on your way home (see directions below. You can sort according to the chart on the fridge or we have also included a sorting chart in this information package. General groups are: 1) paper, cardboard and paper products, 2) plastic, metal, styrofoam and other recyclables, 3) all other garbage. Other garbage (waste) will need to go into the CLEAR bags if you are going to dispose at the Sprucedale dump. If your municipality takes the dark green garbage bags and doesn't require sorting, then just use those.
The dump pass-card is hanging on the “Moose” key rack by the fridge.
Directions to the Dump: (HOURS: 9 A.M.- 5 P.M FRIDAY TO TUESDAY, ONLY)
- The drive takes 15-20 minutes from the cottage

- in Sprucedale, turn right at stop sign onto Highway 518
- the Dump is on the right, approx. 5 minutes, past 2 cemeteries and can be spotted by the yellow “gang arm” gate
**** you will need to bring the white magnetic card to enter the dump (the card is hanging on the side of the Mexican blue tile cabinet, on the wall by the woodstove; Please return it there. Don't forget and take it home with you! (If the card is lost or misplaced, a $25 charge will be issued as that is what it costs us for a replacement)
Garbage can be stored in the shed in a bag if the bag is not punctured or leaking. Remember to keep meat/fish/grease scraps frozen in the freezer until ready to dispose of garbage. Racoons, opossums, fox, and yes, even bears have been seen at the cottage and carelessness with food waste will only attract them, leading to nuisance and, at worst, dangerous situations.
